Negotiation Skills
Everyone aspires to improve their negotiation skills. I think it’s something that can really only be honed by actually doing negotiations. That means you will make mistakes and you probably will get beat up a little in the beginning. The only way to learn negotiation skills is to make the mistakes, analyze what went wrong and then improve upon yourself.

While looking around for some tips on negotiation skills I came across a cool blogpost about the 10 rules for negotiation skills. I put a link up to it on my twitter account if you want to check them out.
Rules For Negotiation Skills
- Prepare more than the other party
- Learn to walk away
- Perseverance pays
- Keeping your mouth shut
- Do not rush to close a deal
- Have the right people in your team
- Understand the terms and conditions
- Learn to let go
- Make friends, not enemies
- Look at the big picture
These basic principles of negotiation skills are great to read about and will give you the foundations you need to start developing negotiation skills.

Reciprocal concession is often used during negotiations. We all have written deep within us the need to repay someone a kindness shown to us, since we now feel indebted to that person. There are some people who use this knowledge to manipulate us into doing something for them.
This technique is known as rejection-then-retreat and also yields very good results.
